ORLANDO, FL— In a bold move that has left both park visitors and civil rights attorneys puzzled, the White House announced Wednesday that a fully operational ICE detention center will be part of Disney World’s upcoming “Tropical Americas” exhibit, scheduled to open in 2027. Officials say the immersive experience will let families get up close and personal with the “magic” of indefinite, and potentially illegal, detention, right alongside Disney characters, animatronic alligators, and churro stands.
“Disney is all about fantasy, and what’s more fantastical than federal immigration enforcement?” said Homeland Security Secretary Pam Bondi, flanked by Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons dressed in a Cinderella costume. “We’re thrilled for the opportunity to educate visitors on the wonders of rapid deportation between rides on Splash Mountain and the new ‘Cocoa Plantation Carousel’.
According to sources, the attraction satirizes American immigration policy by having children ‘role-play’ as ICE agents, while parents face the bureaucracy of forms and lines. “It’s about bringing the American story to life,” said one Disney Imagineer, sharply. “Nothing says ‘Tropical Americas’ like a concrete holding cell with a view of Cinderella’s Castle”.
Disney executives, seemingly under some form of federal pressure, insist the exhibit will provide “an authentic window into hemispheric migration policy—plus a gift shop and quick Mexican food.” The center will have a snack bar (Dippin’ Dots) and a meet-and-greet with Pam Bondi, who will sign visitors’ court summonses on the third Tuesday of each month.
Critics have questioned the logic—ironically—of mixing America’s most popular family destination with its most controversial immigration agency. “It’s almost like they spun a wheel labeled ‘Worst Possible Ideas’ and landed on this,” said one Orlando resident, who jokingly asked not to be named for fear of being mistaken for a character actor and forcibly relocated to Epcot. “I can’t wait for the TSA line at Space Mountain.”
Despite the backlash, Disney and the White House are portrayed as cheerfully embracing the controversy for comedic effect. “We’re confident this will be the happiest detainment on earth,” Bondi concluded, “and at $159 per ticket, it better be,” cementing the satirical tone.
